In the afternoon after our lengthy morning hike through the Taman Negara jungle, we signed up for something called ‘shoot the rapids’, which seemed like it would be fun, since rapids tend to be (as anyone who has ever been whitewater rafting can attest), and furthermore this would be our only chance to take a boat ride up the jungle river and see things from that perspective.
It was innocent enough. All the way up the river were moderate rapids that the long, narrow wooden boats built for 4 passengers, a driver and a person whose sole purpose seemed to be to continually throw water on us, and equipped with a 40 horsepower engine, could easily handle.
But at the point of the journey where we would turn back and head home, and just as we were all taking a swim in the warm, flowing river waters, events took a dramatic turn.

Bhogi, for the record, is the hindu Rain God, worshipped by Malaysian Indians during the Pongal festival each year...

it's indeed elisabeth under there...
